Ethics

Confidentiality:

  • Confidentiality concerns are intimated to the client in the beginning of therapy and counseling session.
  • Client confidentiality is the requirement that therapists and other mental health professionals protect their client’s privacy by not revealing the contents of therapy. Confidentiality also means protecting the very information that the client is under therapy.
  • We understand that when clients comes to us they are in a vulnerable state and as much as we want to help the client sometimes emotions cannot be contained and it may takes the shape of a violent behavior to themselves or others. In such cases we may want to notify family members or others concerned with the client. All this is done with the intent to safe guard the client.
  • If the client is a minor that is below 12 years old, parents will be kept in loop with the best intent for the minor client.
  • Incase minor or disabled people are found to be going through abuse, therapist can seek external help or help from a family member.
  • The client and the therapist can choose not to acknowledge each other in public.
  • The therapist will not reach out to the client other than seeing the client in a therapeutic setting.

Therapist & Client Relationship

The therapist is a human too and they may also be going through all human issues which a client goes through. A therapist who does a lot of self-work is always a good therapist. Therapist also takes help for their own wellbeing and also to make sure that they can offer their undivided and unbiased attention to their clients.

There are also other points that are relevant for a client-therapist relationship.

  • Therapist or counsellor will not discuss their personal issue during a session unless they want to use it as an example to help the client.
  • Therapist will maintain boundary with the client for the best interest of the client.
  • It is important the client feels comfortable with the therapist / counsellor. In case there are concerns like the therapist reminds them of someone who is perceived as a perpetrator in the clients mind please do talk it out with the therapist or the counsellor.
  • In case the therapeutic intervention requires touch or touch therapy, it will be done with prior intimation and with permission from the client. In case of minors, permission will be taken from parents as well.
  • No other person will be allowed in the therapy room. If the family member wants to discuss anything about the client they can reach out to the therapist/ counsellor separately and not during the scheduled sessions.
